8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!Call upon His name;Make known His deeds among the peoples!9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;Talk of all His wondrous works!10 Glory in His holy name;Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!11 Seek the Lord and His strength;Seek His face evermore!12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth.23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.24 Declare His glory among the nations,His wonders among all peoples.25 For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is also to be feared above all gods.26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,But the Lord made the heavens.27 Honor and majesty are before Him;Strength and gladness are in His place.29 Give to the Lord the glory due His name;Bring an offering, and come before Him.Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!31 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; And let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”32 Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;Let the field rejoice, and all that is in it.33 Then the trees of the woods shall rejoice before the Lord,For He is coming to judge the earth.34 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
--1 Chronicles 16:8-12, 23-27, 29, 31-34 (NKJV)
"Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence for Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful to His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; And whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me 'to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public Thanksgiving and Prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness!' Now therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday the twenty-sixth day of November next, to be devoted by the people of the States, to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be: That we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country..."
1 Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all the earth!2 Serve the Lord with gladness;Come before His presence with singing.3 Know that the Lord, He is God;It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,And into His courts with praise.Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting,And His truth endures to all generations.
--Psalm 100 (NKJV)
